The Sequoia 2000 Storage Benchmark

چکیده
This paper presents a benchmark that concisely captures the data base requirements of a collection of Earth Scientists working in the SEQUOIA 2000 project on various aspects of global change research. This benchmark has the novel characteristic that it uses real data sets and real queries that are representative of Earth Science tasks. Because it appears that Earth Science problems are typical of the problems of engineering and scientific DBMS users, we claim that this benchmark represents the needs of this more general community. Also included in the paper are benchmark results for four example DBMSs, ARCINFO, GRASS, IPW and POSTGRES.

متن کاملBenchmarking Spatial Joins à la carte
Spatial joins are join operations that involve spatial data types and operators. Spatial access methods are often used to speed up the computation of spatial joins. This paper addresses the issue of benchmarking spatial join operations. For this purpose, we first present a WWW-based benchmark generator to produce sets of rectangles. Using a Web browser, experimenters can specify the number of r...
متن کاملMonet And Its Geographic Extensions: A Novel Approach to High Performance GIS Processing
We describe Monet, a novel database system, designed to get maximum performance out of today's workstations and symmetric multiprocessors. Monet is a type-and algebra-extensible database system using the Decomposed Storage Model (DSM) and employing shared memory parallelism. It applies purely main-memory algorithms for processing and uses OS virtual memory primitives for handling large data. Mo...
متن کاملThe Parallel Processing of Spatial Selection for Very Large Geo-Spatial Databases
Earth science (ES) applications handle very large geospatial data sets and interactive response time is required by its query processing. Spatial selection is one of the very important basic operations for geo-spatial databases. It retrieves all the objects that intersect with a given point or rectangle. This paper presents a novel approach for the parallel processing of spatial selection of ve...
